Disney on Ice Presents Toy Story 3

Benefits of a Workout Buddy

Having someone to work out with helps you burn more calories. Here's how:

They Make you Accountable
It's easy to skip a solo run, but having a fitness buddy will help you stick to your workout routine, which will lead to more workouts and more calories burned.

Longer Workouts
When you have someone to talk to, you aren't just staring at the clock, so time flies! This means you'll work out longer and therefore lose more calories.

New Workouts
A workout buddy will help you spice things up by showing you new exercises and routines, so you don't get stuck in a rut. Different routines keep your workout interesting, which will keep you motivated. Challenging different muscles also builds strength and endurance.

Friendly Competition
If they can do it, so can you! Competition is that little extra push that you'd get from a personal trainer, but this way it's free.

Fitness Goal Inspiration
Setting goals will increase your training and intensity, so sign up for a marathon together or set a time you'd like to be able to run a mile in.

Prostate Health

10 diet and exercise tips for a healthier prostate, according to research done by the Harvard Medical School.

1. Eat your veggies! Try for at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
2. Go for the grain. When there’s a choice between the two, wheat is better than white.
3. Limit the red. Opt for fish and skinless poultry, indulging in red and processed meat just once in a while.
4. Recognize the difference. Choose healthier fats rather than saturated. Fats found in foods such as nuts and avocados are much better than fats found in fast and packaged foods.
5. Drink better. Opt for the sugary sodas and juices on rare occasions, as well as sweets.
6. Too salty. Cut down on this tableside seasoning, limiting canned and frozen foods as well.
7. Too big, too fast. Eat smaller portions and at a slower pace so you know when you’re really full.
8. Stay active. Men who exercise more often, are less likely to suffer from BPH.
9.Physical perks. A Health Professionals study showed that men who run an hour and a half each week, or do three hours of rigorous outdoor work, are 20 percent less likely to develop erectile dysfunction.
10. Less pain. Studies prove, men who exercise regularly also experience less prostatitis pain, anxiety and depression and have a better quality of life.

Please be sure to attend the Wellness Speaker Series: Things to Know about Your Prostate Gland on Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 7-8 p.m. in the Enatai room. $5/member.

Chef Paul's Roasted Pumpkin and Fennel

Just in time for Halloween, Executive Chef Paul Marks shares one of his favorite recipes for the star of the holiday, pumpkin.

ROASTED PUMPKIN AND FENNEL
Serves 4 to 6 as a side dish

This is a good side dish with any variety of poultry or fowl.

1 (3-to 3.5-pound) pumpkin, seeded, peeled and sliced into 1 ½-inch pieces
2 large fennel bulbs, halved and then sliced
1 large sweet onion, peeled and sliced
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
extra-virgin olive oil
salt and pepper

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Place pumpkin, fennel, onion and garlic in a large bowl and toss with olive oil, salt and pepper. Place vegetables on baking sheet and roast for about 35 to 40 minutes until tender.
