Junior Members spar to the top

Two Bellevue Club junior members were top finishers at this year's 24th annual Robukai NW Classic karate championship in Oregon. Analise Butler sparred her way to a third place finish in the 8- to 9-year-old Kumite division, while Caleb Cochran brought grace and strength to the weapons form and also took third in his division.

Their Sensei, James Penor, has more than 28 ears of martial arts training in Shito-Ryu karate and was the 1993 Washington state karate champion. He has a fifth-degree blackbelt with the International Karate Association. James is the instructor of the Bellevue Club's Karate Club, which members can attend once or twice a week. For more information about the Club's Karate Club, call Sensei James Penor at 206.550.7701.

Dodgeball and Powerpoint

Nothing says team building like pegging your coworker with a dodgeball. Last
week, local executives took a break from the conference room for an intense
round of dodgeball and relay races in the gym.

Back in the conference room, Catering laid out the new Ballpark Break spread
to replenish failing energy levels. Inspired by baseball season, the package
includes all your stadium favorites from fresh popcorn to pigs in a blanket.

To schedule a meeting at the Club or to order a Ballpark Break package,
e-mail the Private Events Department or call 688.3382.

Embracing movement at the Bellevue Club

Saturday, Feb. 27 was a day to get up and get moving in the Ballroom at the Bellevue Club. Partnering with Lululemon Athletica and the nonprofit Pushing Boundaries, Bellevue Club members and guests enjoyed a day of workouts with top instructors and inspiring stories from people Pushing Boundaries has helped.

All proceeds from the event went to help the nonprofit, which provides exercise therapy and movement opportunities for victims of spinal cord injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis and other debilitating conditions.

Check back for the final amount raised at the event, and in the meantime, see more photos taken throughout the day.

Cycle for the Cure: BC and ADA partnering to fight diabetes.

The Bellevue Club is excited to be partnering with the American Diabetes Association to help raise money in the fight against diabetes while also giving you a great workout! Our top cycling instructors will be teaching three different indoor cycling classes. The spinathon is happening Saturday, March 20, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the ADA.

The first class, “Spinning Out of Control,” starts at 11:30 a.m. Spend an hour and 15 minutes improving your fitness and burning off breakfast. A $20 minimum donation reserves your bike.

For those looking to take it easy on a Saturday afternoon, join us for the 45-minute “Ease On Down the Road” class at 1 p.m. A $15 minimum donation reserves your bike.

Looking to burn off breakfast AND Friday night’s dinner? Come to “Road Kill,” a two-hour ride starting at 2 p.m. A $25 minimum donation reserves your bike.

All three sessions are happening in the Club’s Aerobics Studio, so space is limited to 45 cyclists per class.

E-mail us or head over to the Members Only Site to reserve your bike.

While you’re waiting for your spinathon session, get tanked! The Club is bringing back the Hydrostatic Body Fat Testing Clinic. The truck will be in the parking lot starting at 7 a.m., and the test takes only 10 minutes. Plus, a minimum of 10 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the American Diabetes Association. Please call the Athletic Services Desk at 688.3177 to reserve your time in the tank.

Updates, tips, recipes—welcome to BC Blog!

For the purpose of this introductory paragraph, we’re going to assume that you breathlessly await your copy of REFLECTIONS magazine each month, and devour its pages once it arrives. But REFLECTIONS is just like any other publication: It is finished well before it arrives at your doorstep. That’s why we’ve worked hard to bring longer stories about you--the members--and have saved last-minute announcements and shorter informational articles for e-mail alerts.

Now you have an additional option for the latest information from the Bellevue Club. Welcome to our new blog. We’re going to use this space for stories and other information that won’t fit in REFLECTIONS, that we want you to read before the next issue hits your mailbox or that we just think is something you’re interested in. We also want to make this a hub for member news: If you’ve got anything exciting going on, we want to hear about it. Whether you’re planning to climb Rainier, throw an art show or host a charity
event, the BC Blog is a gathering point for Eastside happenings. You can contact us via www.bcreflections.com or by e-mailing your stories and photographs to reflections@bellevueclub.com.

Add us to your RSS readers, or just check back often to get:
• The latest member happenings around the Eastside
• Club sports, culture and fitness updates
• Class information
• Fitness tips
• Healthy recipes
• Goings-on at the Club
• Other things we haven’t even thought of yet!

In addition to this shiny new blog (and Hotel Bellevue’s new blog), we’re now on Twitter! Follow us to get last-minute class openings or cancellations, parking alerts, special offers, weather-related announcements and more. We’ve set up a main Bellevue Club Twitter account at www.twitter.com/BC_Club. In addition, you can follow your favorite departments or Hotel Bellevue. Twitter accounts are as follows:
